Anyone else get a message like this

    Jack,
Hi I hope you're well. My name's Karen Jackson. I'm from Australia and saw your posts
on the Japan forum, after being fortunate enough to stumble across it during research.
With another classmate, I'm researching Japan and Japanese culture and history, for a high school project we're doing and would greatly appreciate your help if possible. There's stacks of great information available on Japan, so that's no problem at all, but we also needed to survey (if we can find any) any people on the question below (which we can't answer), but preferably those having much admiration for anything Japanese and Japanese related (and may have more than likely travelled to Japan at least once), who can speak of their admiration reasonably eloquently. I'd be honored to have your response if possible.
Question : Of course Japan isn稚 perfect and has it痴 negatives just like any other country, but what makes (and always has made) Japan and it's people, culture, food, history, geography, etc., so unique and compelling to you, compared to other countries ? Or if you've travelled to Japan before, what made (and still makes) Japan, it's geography, people and culture, so beautiful, unique and compelling to you ?
This can be answered normally in normal wording in just a paragraph, or even in a rhyming poem (but not a haiku), or limerick, if interested. If you've read any particularly eloquent, articulate comment/s someone's made about Japan (that you reckon answers this question in your view) and have kept it on file, because it impressed you, feel free to quote it.
If in addition to answering yourself, you wish to recommend anyone you know (or don't know, but still admire), whom you regard as quite knowledgeable and / or eloquent on the subject of Japan, please do so if possible, as it would be much appreciated. Thanks so much for your time, in anticipation of your response.
    Sincerely,
    Karen

I found it in my pm box, i noticed the member who sent it, hadn't made a post, so i came to the conclusion not to respond. But has anyone other than myself received a message similar to this?

    P.s.
An idea to Thomas, if people sign-up to spam members and not post maybe there should be like a post count, say you have to post 5 posts to be able to use the PM service. Thus in the end stopping people signing up and spamming the members.

  • I''ve got one too. But I don't know if I'll respond.

  • I still think it's shady to mass PM members like that.

  • Now, isn't that funny? Yesterday evening, I received the following email, sent to a private account. Compare to the mail in the first post.

    Just a coincidence?

  • Well, they DO mention a classmate...

  • Hmmmm...

    :okashii:

  • she sure sends classy PM's and seems SOOOOO nice!! I took time to reply in a PM to her ; hope others will too!

    Uncle Frank

    :-)

  • I agree with jack2...makes no sense.

And I indeed got one. I feel pretty much the same way as Frank (about the homework) and figured if she poked around on the boards, she'd find any info she needed/wanted.

  • I got one, answered it, and got a response. I decided to help out a little, on the grounds that it seemed real (her response matched the original intent exactly) and if I had done the same thing when I had been in highschool, it would surely have made a lasting impression on my heart--the kindness of total strangers, who are yet just human like us all, has not yet been drown in the roaring waves of modernity--and if I get stung from behind, or wake up with a bitter taste in my mouth the day after...well, live and learn...[in other words, I'll rejoice in knowing that I'm still that young !! hee,hee.....:-)

  • I mean if it was meant for each and every member why not post a post? Then you get a shared view of it.

  • Not to be left out ...

    Yup!

I got one too. Didn't respond.

Quite fascinated that everyone else got them as well. But it is as I suspected.

    What are they up to?

(I think I'll start a "Can we trust Australians?" thread ........)
    question for: pafalafa-ga ONLY!::
Customers used to get a message, but that feature is broken, I'm afraid. I really would like to close off that question and tip you, but I am now quite

  • Or it could be they were given a suggested way to ask questions and told to look up japanese stuff online. If they put in Japanese and forum in google, guess who pops up first...either way I find it amusing.

That said, how they found a personal address is interesting...

  • I got one, im playing games back hehe
now thats the spirit, why didn't i think of that?

  • I got one too - I responded, saying she was asking the wrong person, and to look in the Japan-related forums. Looks like she PMed everybody!

  • I got one.. she said she readed my threads... AAAAA IM IN LOVE...

so i replied... with.. GO FK URSELF hahaha.. ahum

sorry, to much sopranos, I got her message, but I didn't replied, because she should have posted at least a couple of times.

  • Thanks for the info. I actually took it seriously....
Glad I didn't have the time to respond...:relief:

PS Oops! Is it legit? Then, that's another story... But then she'll have to wait quite a while for me to respond...

  • I got one, im playing games back hehe

  • I got one too, didn't respond. I agree with you guys.

Thanks for posting the thread jack. I was wondering about it, too.

  • Now, that's an impressively motivated class... :-)

  • I sent her a PM suggesting see read this thread before she PM's more members.

    Frank

    :souka:

  • I got it too, and I made up my mind I wasn't going to respond.

I also think it could be a good idea to have some conditions for sending PM's. Evidently, they spammed lots of members.

    Who else got one?

  • Seems to be OK and legit? She said she tried posting on other forums on Japan with poor results. She was hoping a PM would net her better responses. SOOOO, I guess if someone wants to help her, it would be nice of you. Since I haven't been to Japan since 1971, I can't offer anything up to date. Maybe some of our members living in Japan can help her?

    Frank

    :bluush:

  • I have contacted her and asked her to post a thread. Here it is (http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21770).

  • I sent her a PM suggesting see read this thread before she PM's more members.
    Frank
    :souka:
have you had a reponse frank?

  • i got it and replyed back..

  • Got one too. Willing to bet that a lot of people got them. I'm ignoring it. If they want the info read the rest of the site. After all Jref is not just the forum. I have a feeling I have seen the email before on the forum sent by a previous spammer. Either that or I'm having deja vu

  • Seems harmless enough to me.

If, however she sent multiple emails ALL the time, then I would consider it a problem.

  • I got one also! My first thought was to recommend someone who lives in Japan since I haven't been there since 1971. My second thought was why should we help do someone elses school homework. Now I wonder if this whole thing is some type of scam?

    Frank

    :souka:

  • I wonder if she'd notice if we just started a thread on it.

  • I have no doubt that her intention is sincere, but I don't appreciate her methods; especially not mentioning her reason for asking the question in her thread. Frankly, I'd like to see her make some sort of contribution to the community here before she tries take away from it. I think I made that clear in my response to the thread, which I noticed before I saw this one up.

  • Hahaha, omg, and I was thinking it was only me she sent that to :p I didn't respond to it, but I say, let's mail bomb her !! j/k guys :hihi:

She's authentic though, found her profile on another forum. She's an Ewan McGregor fan obvious :p

It takes a man from Lincolnshire to come up with a sensible suggestion!

    I'd go along with that.

(BTW - Is it possible that Koizumi san himself sent these messages - in a desperate need to poll international reaction ...?)

    Just a thought.
