Hi. the f6 key sometimes brings other windows in to focus when in applications such as eudora etc, I wanted to try it in outpost. After pressing the f6 key and trying to use the arrows, the program will start playing up and crash.
Hello whocrazy,
This is the first I have heard of this Problem. You might try updating your drivers to see if this helps. If not then submit a bug report using the Bug Submition Form (http://www.agnitum.com/support/supportform.html) giving Agnitum all of the details of what you are seeing.
Hi whocrazy,
Out of curiousity, what is the significance of the F6 key?
And, what does pressing the arrow keys after pressing the F6 key do?
I am on an XP Home system tonight. But, I will try to follow the procedure your outlined above on a 98SE system tomorrow and see what happens.
Have a good day. :)
Thanks Chris I do not use F6 either I always use Alt Tab.

Hello whocrazy, Welcome to the Forum.:)
I am using WinMe and notice nothing strange when following your instructions. But I did learn that I can move up and down the GUI Tree using the Arrows Keys.:D

Randy
I can confirm the bug - complete crash - but then again, I have no inclination to hit F6 to change focus. I use ALT-TAB for that.
W98 Faqs:: (98SE), which includes more bug fixes to 98 and support for even more devices. Im using Windows 98SE and I cant shutdown the system properly. http://www.cpucare.com/FAQS/w98faqs.htmHOME |
All drivers are up to date and my 98SE system is pristine.
whocrazy;
in Outpost, pressing the F1 key will open the help file(s).
Having OP open on my system(s) and its window focused, pressing the F6 key does nothing for me (or OP, for that matter) - and that's by design.
You might want to see if you have a focusing issue and pressing F6 activates some other software's function that may interfere with your OP installation.
Just a thought - I'm more or less guessing here.
One thing is sure, pressing the F6 key with the OP window focused, should do NOTHING at all on your system!
Did you say speech synthesiser? Hmm, is that thing completely compatible and up-tp-date?? A lot of those software packages can be rather troublesome to "train". Hmm, I don't know about this one, but it definitely rings a few alarm bells in my mind.
hope this helps - heart
whocrazy,
If you wish to apply to be a betatester, you can do by following the instructions on Agnitum's website.

sorry I got a bit fired up. I submitted a bug report a few days ago before this thread but still haven't got a response, but I did get a ticket number and I have moved the msg to the storage folder for future reference. Thanks again. btw: what happens on other operating system when you try and reproduce the bug there?

Hello whocrazy,:)
I have treid this on both my WinMe and XP machines and it does not cause a problem.
I also submitted a bug report and referenced this Thread.
Hi heart. Just to clarify things, as has been said previously the problem is a windows 98se bug, not a speech synthesiser bug, Other windows98se users have tried reproducing the bug and have succeeded.. The explanitory texts I was talking about is the outpost newsletter that comes up on the screen along side outpost's control pannel. I even booted up windows98se and got a sighted user to help me reproduce the bug without the speech software loaded in memory and the same thing happened.. I really wish I'd been a beta tester of outpost, the more the merrier, lol.
F6 does not really have a fixed function. You can use it to switch between different window panes in Explorer, but it will do different things in other applications (e.g. in Opera it tiles all the windows). I would suggest using Tab or Ctrl-Tab since this does have a more consistent function.
it's part of the way I get around the screen and try to read it. it's important to me because I can't use the program properly.

Just when I was going to say it was ok for me (Win98SE) - I crashed it - it ended up "not responding".
I wonder if it depends if the other half of the window can take focus or not... by the time I killed it, I wasn't really paying enough attention.
Hello whocrazy,:)
I do not believe anyone meant any offence. If you will submit a bug report and give your full explanation it will help to get it fixed and reference this thread please.

Hello rikos, Thank you.:)
I will submit a bug report on this. If you and whocrazy will submit a bug report on this also and give Agnitum all of the info then hopefully it can be fixed with next release.
well, when I use it in outpost, it allows me to read the help text that explains things more clearly, instead of having to use the virtual cursor to try and find it amongst the other texts, so f6 for me is like a short cut which takes me straight to the explanitory text, trouble is, when I go to use the arrows with my speech synthesiser to try and read the actual text, thats when the crash happens.
Yep it happened here also. But I agree with Rikos, I don't use F6 so if this is a very low priority fix, I really don't care.
Chris
You dont care? well, I do. I am blind and I use a speech synthesiser, and that's part of the way I use to get around the screen to be able to read certain information. If I can't do that without crashing, then I can't use outpost at all. and it's not a problem with my text to speech program conflicting with outpost, because other people experience crashes when they try it. Next time please think before you say those things. I'm not complaining for the sake of complaining, this is an annoying bug and stops me being able to use the program properly
Hi whocrazy,
Please forgive me. I, of course, didn't mean it that way. I should have said it doesn't affect me because I use Alt-Tab ( I didn't even know about F6-arrow) .. As far as caring, I put in a bug report on it after replicating it a few times.
Regards,
Chris
