    Hello!
I am now testing Agnitum Outpost Firewall 2.5.375.4822 (build 375) on Windows 2000 Pro + SP4. Filtnt.sys version is 2.5.374.

I have a dial-up modem and I use the Windows ICS. In my LAN I have another PC with the exact same OS (Win200pro+sp4).

Everything works perfect. I like Outpost VERY much. I had no problems with ICS - as reported by others. It does allow NAT packets and I had no problems.

Still ... I do have a tiny problem. I mainly use the hibernate feature instead of the shutdown/reboot feature when I stop the computer. Why? Because my server boots way toooo slow and the hibernate feature makes me happy :) - boots a lot faster.

The problem is: I shutdown the client computer (I don't use hibernate on the client computer because it doesn't work). I hibernate the server. When I start now the server and the client everything works except ICS. What to do? I can't give-up using hibernate.

I can make ICS to work if I allow all traffic over the IP given by the dial-up connection, but that's silly because it defeats the purpose of the firewall :). Can anybody tell me what rules to create to allow NAT packets via my own rules?

    My server IP: 192.168.0.1
The server also has its own IP given by the ISP when I connect to the internet with my modem.

    Client IP: 192.168.0.2

The IPs are not obtained automatically. I have properly configured the client to always use as the server 192.168.0.1.

Also I have added 192.168.0.2 on the server in Outpost > LAN Settings as a trusted IP.

What to do? This might be a "bug" in Outpost, but it's very uncommon (who uses hibernate feature under the same circumstances?). I think I could work around this problem via system rules. As above, can anybody tell me which rules are required?

    Thank you.

  • Welcome to the forums Aopfuser,

If your server is connected only via dialup then this may be a cause of the problem since the connection is presumably just hung-up when the system is put into hibernation (if so, you may be able to replicate this by disconnecting the phone line manually). Another possibility is the change of IP address when you reconnect (try opening a command prompt and typing ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew both before and after hibernation to see what happens).

However this sort of problem can only be dealt with by Agnitum so I would suggest you contact them directly if the above suggestions do not help (1).
