I'm watching Speeders show and this couple got pulled over for going to slow. The cop said they were going 10 miles under the speed limit and said that a ticket for going slow is worse then a ticket for going fast, it costs more & takes more points on your license. I've never heard of that before. I mean, what happens during bad weather when you slow down??? This couple was lost and trying to find the right street. My mother drives 10 miles under the speed limit to save on gas lol...this means she could get a ticket????
You can be cited for driving to slow if the officer determines the slower speed is unsafe. For instance; Someone is driving 45 miles an hour on the freeway when everyone else is doing 65+. Im retired now, but if my memory serves me correct in California its called the minimum speed law.
It can obstruct the flow of traffic detrimentally, esp. at particular times of day. If the officer is satisfied that the speed is not suitable for the situation, including time, traffic, road conditions, etc. you will get a ticket. And lol 10 under won't necessarily save fuel ;)
It is possible that the cop felt that the driver was not only going too slow compared the rest of the traffic, but also driving erratic due to the driver looking for addresses.
This is a reason why EVERY business should have large numbers (5 inches or larger) over their main door or 8 inch numbers or larger on the building wall facing the street; this makes it easier for all people to find businesses.
I'm happy to see they are finally enforcing this law. You are suppose to keep up with the flow of traffic, when you go to slow you create an unsafe situation for other drivers.
That is true. Too fast you are a danger to others if you hit them, too slow you cause a dangerous driving situation.
I am happy the policeman ticketed the slow pokes, they get annoying if you want to go the speed limit.
If they want to go that slow, then maybe they should ride a bike or walk, and let the rest of us get on with our lives.
I am not speaking about those that go the speed limit, just the irritants that go 10 or so under when there is not way to pass. Then guess what? You see them hang up the cell phone and finally get with it.
They then should be ticketed for both, the obstructing traffic and talking on the cell phone.
Yes, you can get a ticket for going to slow. If the speed you are going is unsafe, you can get a ticket for driving too slow.
It's called obstructing traffic.
