hi
i'm a fan & devout outpost user
i use outpost from the 2 verion i guess 2.1 ,i am not sure about which version
but the new version of outpost is pretty nice heavy
it need a lot of resource , and slow down almost every manchine
i did notice a big exodus to other firewall like comodo , online armor and so on
well my question is there is intention to make a light & powerful firewall like comodo or online armor ? outpost flags - Stormfront White Nationalist Community:: 6 posts - Last post: Dec 2, 2008outpost flags Classified Ads. or the 4 version is the future and the future version will be with the same trace; follow the same new structure of outpost , a program that need a lot of resource , with many feature (somebody says bloatware , for is not a bloatware) , need need a lot of ram , and that slow down a pc even a new generation pc
thanks
have a nice day
The development of version 4 is finished. The 2008 products are the development line and will continue to be improved with time. Personally, I don't see much resource usage difference between OP4 and 2008 on my 5 year old machine. Even though the new version is a complete rewrite the significant features in OP2008 are not vastly different then version 4.
There are more incompatibilities with the new version that may cause significant stalling in I/O operations but this is detected when the product is installed and shuts down the appropriate module.
Basically, in XP, I don't see much difference in resource useage as far as OP is concerned.
is there in mind to make a lite version of outpost?
I doubt it, otherwise it would defeat the object of protecting your machine properly. You can switch the Anti-Spyware off, this would be important, especially if you have an Anti-Virus that does this. You can always download and try out version 4 and the 2008 version to see what you think about them, but remember to completely remove the firewall you have first, as you can only have one on at any one time.
You can make a lite version yourself by turning off all the features you don't want to use. It's not exactly the same as in OP4 where you could actually uninstall the plugins since OP2008 doesn't have the plugin architecture any longer but its close.
