I've been searching through the forums and haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Is it possible to have both Analog and Digital outputs enabled. I'm if it's possible to have Digital Audio enabled but still allow Analog audio out also. Therefore I can have my Linux XBMC plugged into the TV via Analog as well as via Digital to a compatible surround amplifier allowing me (and more importantly the missus) to watch content via XBMC without having to switch on the amp and without having to change settings, but powering on the Amp will obviously use the digital.
At the moment if the video being played has digital sound and digital is selected as audio out in XBMC it seems to not allow analog audio, although xbmc sound effects are still passed through analog. If analog is set as the audio out then the same file with a digital sound track will play via analog.
I don't think this is Linux port specific as I believe my Xbox running XBMC performs the same way. I guess I'm just after some confirmation that this is how things are at the moment. Would be nice if it just did both, in the same way that a regular DVD player does.
What's so bad about powering on the amp? Get a good universal remote that supports macros and you can have a nice friendly xbmc button that turns the right stuff on and switches all the inputs.
The wife just wants something easy to use. We usually watch TV shows which doesn't really warrant having the Amp on all the time, the TV has an adequate set of built in speakers. We occasionaly watch a film in surround sound and would use the amp at those times but it is a bit of a niggle having to keep switching to digital on the xbmc. Have seen a possible way that mythtv allows simultaneous streams (http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Configuring_Digital_Sound) so will see if this is possible with xbmc Need Telephone System:: Once you have decided on one or two possible systems make your decision not only based A series of analog-to-digital conversion and other computer-based http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=438924HOME | communications topics:: Coaxial cable can also transmit both analog and digital signals. . 2.2 Interoperable – it should be possible for one type of network or system to http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/181703.htmlHOME |

pulseaudio doesn't support passthrough.
Not sure but could this problem get solved by using pulseaudio.
no, this is not possible. it would mean having to run two audio streams at one time, something which is not supported by our player.
nor do i see the point in adding the support.
if you reall want it, supply a patch. it might be doable using some alsa plugins, dunno
